I am a fiber artist born and raised around the rural Midwest. My experience makes me reflect on my perception of it vs. the stereotypical Midwest that most know. I create portal-like imagery to unveil an alternative reality that is not the norm. I use my research of patterning happening in midwest quilting, insects, and nature as language in piecing these portals together. These works make me curious about creating the other side of reality in building hybrid insects that reflect the unspoken. In my work I am using papermaking “paper pulp painting” and weaving overshot tapestries.
